Google CEO Sundar Pichai says he doesn’t ‘fully understand’ how the new AI programme Bard works after it taught itself a foreign language it was not trained to and cited fake books to solve an economics problem.
One of the big problems discovered with Bard is something that Pichai called ’emergent properties,’ or AI systems having taught themselves unforeseen skills. What is most surprising is that Google don’t fully understand how it works yet, but they’ve allowed it to be released for public use.
Pichai said: “Let me put it this way. I don’t think we fully understand how a human mind works either. And it’s this statement which speaks volumes and can be compared to kids playing with fire with no supervision.
A group of artificial intelligence experts, including Elon Musk and industry executives, have in recent weeks in an open letter, called for a six-month pause in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI’s newly launched GPT-4, citing potential risks to society.
Sundar Pichai admits: ‘We don’t have all the answers there yet and the technology is moving fast. “So does that keep me up at night? Absolutely.” And it should worry us all when we look at how far we are moving away from our own “humanness” and giving our control and consent to AI, corporations such as Google to run and control our daily lives.
Google is clearly an organisation with its own left-wing agenda when the CEO confirms: “Our tests show that Bard has a preference for people like President Joe Biden, a Democrat, over his predecessor and other right-wingers.
Last month, Twitter CEO Musk posted that the leftward bias in another digital tool, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, was a “serious concern”.
For Bard, the word ‘woman’ can refer to a man ‘who identifies as a woman,’ as sex is not absolute. No wonder the AI system is confused!
If you knew how your future would look, would you change the decisions you make today?
Transport with me to a distant future, where you will have no pets in households anymore, no vet bills, but a little robot dog you no longer need to walk, will give you comfort at night and still chase the burglars away.
Transport with me to a distant future where we will have an adult size robot in our homes, that will cook, clean and do our laundry. It may sound strange at first, until we can no longer live without them as they will become part of our society.
The more power we give to AI, the more we drift further away from our true selves and our connection to nature.
May this be a reminder that anything unnatural will not be healthy to human body, mind and soul. AI may have its benefits, but rely on it just a bit too much and you may just lose human intelligence.
A.I. Is turning into a true Black Swan event as rather than taking over simple manufacturing jobs as everyone expected it is instead overtaking what people assumed would be the safest areas of producing art, writing even coding.
Strangely enough it seems the unskilled fruit pickers will be the last to become obsolete.
